My father, Don Varner, is the strongest man I know. I tell him that all the time. He has been through a lot. In recovery from throat and prostate cancer, living with Parkinson's…..all from Agent Orange. He served our country faithfully for over 24 years in the Navy, 3 tours in Vietnam and then another 20 years as a defense contractor. He has given his all for others, for all of us.
We just lost my mom, Carolyn, on Mothers Day 2018 from Alzheimer's. Again, Dad shows his strength as he tries to keep his head held high and look out for the rest of us. We know its not easy.
He is staying active, exercising every day, trying his best to eat right, plays games with others to keep his mind busy - all good things for dealing with Parkinson's. But he does fall and bless his heart he has had to have his hip replaced and just in May had his shoulder replaced. He heals faster then anyone I know.
So he is right back out there.
He is a trooper by all accounts and we love him dearly. He is a positive influence, a true hero for others dealing with this terrible, incurable disease. I hope you will think of my dad and donate to help the Michael J. Fox Organization for research and finding the cure for Parkinson's. Thank you for anything you can do to help.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today.
