They were best friends, the love of each other's lives, and were married for over 53 years. He was a dedicated and loving father of four children and grandfather of six grandchildren. He will always be an inspiration to those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered as a brilliant, kind and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Although he experienced a long and challenging struggle with Parkinson's disease, he NEVER complained and always maintained a very positive and upbeat sense of humor. He always saw the best in people and always found the best in life. He encouraged us through his strong and extraordinary example to reach higher, try harder and endure to the end. He will always be our heroic and gentle warrior.
Upon learning of his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, Jim volunteered to participate in a large scale, multi-phase clinical trial to contribute to the effort of finding a cure for Parkinson's. During the initial interview with the lead physician of the clinical trial at Yale, it was explained to him that it was a "lucky break" that his left side was predominantly affected, given that he was right-handed. That idea of a "lucky break" became a consistent mantra throughout his life. He remained steadfast no matter the challenge. He never gave in or gave up, and without fail he always found and deeply appreciated the "lucky break."
One of Jim's greatest wishes was to realize better treatments and ultimately a cure to defeat Parkinson's. In lieu of flowers, we know it would mean the world to him - and to our entire family - if you would consider contributing to the Michael J. Fox Foundation and their mission to end Parkinson's.
Jim's immediate family will hold a private and intimate celebration of his life.
He is "...constant as the Northern
Star,
Of whose true-fix'd and resting
quality
There is no fellow in the
firmament."
