My husband, J. Michael McGrath, MD lived with Parkinson’s Disease for the last 13 years of his life. He lived fully with great humor and optimism and maintained his keen sense of curiosity and wonder about this universe. The Parkinson’s robbed him of his physical strength and mobility. Michael was not a candidate for deep brain stimulation or clinical trials due to his pre-existing conditions unrelated to Parkinson’s. He maintained his hope that a cure or prevention of Parkinson’s would be developed during his lifetime. Sadly, he died from Parkinson’s related complications in February 2018.
Hopefully, support of Parkinson’s research through the Michael J Fox Foundation will lead to a cure and a way to prevent Parkinson’s in the near future.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
