$945.00Clara Cecilia Hernandez was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1943 to Tobias and Cecilia Hernandez. After a brief flirtation attending a convent, she met her first husband, John Archer, hence the last names of her two children Michael and Katherine. Clara migrated to the United States in the early 1960's and lived in Georgia, Virginia, and Maryland. While separated from her first husband in Laurel, Maryland, she met George Santos at the swimming pool in their apartment complex in 1973. One thing led to another and in 1977 they were married and were blessed with over 40 wonderful years, 16 years with George in the Air Force and 25 in Naples, Florida.
Throughout her whole life Clara was God's special gift to the poor and needy. She never returned to Colombia without extra bags filled with goodies. She distributed bread and pastries donated by local supermarkets. She taught religious education at St. Peter's for over 12 years. She assisted St. Peter's priest taking toiletries and other sundries to migrant workers in near by camps. She was active in helping new residents in getting settled in their new Naples community.
Clara battled Parkinson's Disease for well over 5 years, a condition that tried to rob her very soul of light. In the end, the degeneration accelerated like a snowball rolling downhill. With the loving care of Vitas hospice for the last four months, Clara was welcomed into the comfort of our Lord. We no longer pray for her, but TO her. We will miss her until it is our turn.
Clara has donated her brain to scientific research in furtherance of new and better treatments for Parkinson's. Won't you please consider a donation in her memory. Thank You for all the Love and Kindness!
