Paul Robert Axt of Tampa died peacefully March 24, 2018, aged 83 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Son of Marian and Robert, loving husband of Jane Axt, Paul was born in Newark, NJ, but lived most of his life in Florida. He spent his formative years in Miami, and later attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he studied agricultural sciences. Paul met his future wife on a blind date while attending the first-ever Florida-Florida State football game in 1958. While the Gators won that first contest, the real victory was the beginning of a loving relationship and marriage of 56 years. Paul is survived by two daughters, Laurie and Lynn, who also live in the Tampa area. Paul worked as a property and casualty insurance executive until his retirement. He achieved Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and later became a classroom instructor for CPCU candidates. Paul also served as a private insurance consultant later in life.
Among Paul's greatest gifts was his gift of humor and positive spirit. He was always quick to tell a joke or could simply find something funny to share about everyday life, no matter the circumstances. He was an avid fan of all Florida Gator sports, and was also a devoted father to his children. Paul enjoyed playing and teaching the game of chess as well as traveling and experiencing life with the many friends he made over the years. He will be sorely missed by all.
