Raised in Tribute:
$7570.00Bill passed away at home in Manhattan on Tuesday morning, December 27th, at age 75. He fought a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, but in the end, a combination of kidney disease and heart failure coupled with the Parkinson's just proved to be too much for him. He was a fighter, always trying to combat the relentless tract of this awful disease. Bill's doctors were amazed at his will, and his optimistic spirit in the face of continual setbacks. The disease robbed him of his ability to walk, to speak clearly, to be independent, but it never took away his spirit. Every time he saw his neurologists, he would quiz them about the status of the latest research, and the long and seemingly impossible path to a cure. He urged them not to give up, to keep trying to find the elusive breakthrough.
I hope and pray that someday the answers will be found, and this disease will be eliminated. Sadly, no cure was in sight for Bill, and I lost my husband, best friend, and biggest supporter, who loved me unconditionally despite my many flaws.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
