Raised in Tribute:
$50.00Michael (Mickey) Minahan, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 at his home in Loudonville after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s. He now joins his loving and devoted wife, the late Marie C. (nee Urban) Minahan in everlasting life.
A proud native of South Troy, Mickey grew up on Stow hill; the eldest of eight sharing a loving and cozy one bathroom home on Marvin Avenue. After serving our nation in the US Air Force with several foreign deployments, Mickey returned home to begin his career as an apprentice machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal. He always had a drive to learn and advance, ultimately moving through the ranks and into management and became the Chief of Production Control. In addition to his long career at the Arsenal, Mike was very active locally and nationally in the Federal Manager’s Association (FMA), serving as regional Vice President and ultimately National President of the over 10,000-member organization for more than ten years. Not one to settle down after retiring from the Arsenal, Mike and Marie began a second chapter in their lives as business owners in Buffalo, following his brother Tommy’s lead by opening their own California Closet franchise in Western New York. The couple were inseparable, working each day side-by-side, often well into the evening, but always together. After nearly ten years in Buffalo, at the age of 65, it was time for yet another career move when Mike went back to his manufacturing roots, working in sales and design consulting for ProFlow, Inc. in Middletown, CT where he and Marie lived until her passing in 2004. Mike returned to the Capital Region in 2005 where he remained active, continuing his consulting work and spending time with his family. Mike and Marie loved to travel, and had many opportunities to do so through FMA, California Closets, and most often visiting their children around the US and Europe.
Michael is the loving father of three, Michael (Melissa) Minahan (Franklin, MA), Timothy (Greta) Minahan, (Buffalo, NY), and Kathleen (Stephanie Olszowy) Minahan (Troy), and a beloved and adoring grandfather to Jessica, Timothy Jr., Michael Jr., Christopher, and Haley Minahan.
The eldest son of Michael P. and Selina (nee Casey) Minahan, Mickey is predeceased by his brother Robert Minahan, and is survived by siblings Marion (Edward) Reamer, Judy (Leo) Mosseau, Carol (Bob) Stewart, Thomas (Trudy) Minahan, JoAnn (Richard) McCann, and William (Susan) Minahan.
The family would especially like to thank the caring nurses and staff at Loudonville Assisted Living Residence where Mike has lived since 2016. They have done so much to improve his quality of life, especially during his final days when Hospice care began.
Calling hours are Sunday, from 4:00 – 8:00 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 416 Third St., South Troy at 10:00 on Monday. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
