Irene Austin, age 86, of Crossville, TN, passed away on October 2, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fairfield, Glade, TN. Irene succumbed to complications related to Advanced Parkinsons Disease. She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends, and the hundreds of students she taught as a career school teacher.
In lieu of flowers, Irene requested that tax-deductible donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research in the hope of finding a cure for this horrible disease. Parkinsons Disease takes the body, mind, and eventually the life of all victims.
Irene was born February 5, 1931 in Crossville, TN, daughter of the late Franklin Arlington Lowe and Eliza Arva (Norris) Lowe. She was baptized at the Steven Gap Church of Christ as a youth. Irene taught school in Cumberland County for thirty-six years. After she retired from teaching, she served as a member of the Cumberland County School Board. She was well known for her fund-raising efforts in support of local education and families in need.
She is survived by: Son, LTC John T. Dooley, US Army (Ret.), San Diego, CA; Sister, Aline Davis, Harriman, TN; and, Sister, Lorene Barnett, Crossville, TN. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by Sister, Pauline Kerley.
