We are saddened to announce the passing of retired CHP Sergeant Gene Baker, who passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease on September 16, 2017. Gene was born in Keota, Oklahoma January 4, 1934. Gene began his career with the California Highway Patrol in June 1960; where he was assigned as a motorcycle officer to the Indio Area office. He worked as an officer in the Merced area for over 25 years. He promoted to the rank of sergeant and ended his career in the Madera Area where he retired in 1992. Gene was also a Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. Gene was an expert marksman, avid hunter, accomplished fisherman, journeyman welder and a master mechanic. He also loved gardening and growing vegetables for friends and family. Gene is survived by his wife Patti Baker of Atwater, his daughter Staci Baker who lives in the state of Vermont, his son Craig Baker (Stephanie) of Turlock, his four grandchildren, Sierra, Danielle, Calvin, Ermek and one great grandchild, Steven.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 10:30am at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery located at 32053 West McCabe Road, Santa Nella, CA
