Raised in Tribute:
$522.00David Christopher Ruzicka went home to Jesus at age 70 on October 20, 2025, where he is now standing tall and whole.
Dave was born in Holyoke, Colorado and grew up in Lennox, South Dakota before moving to Taylor, Nebraska as a young adult. He married Peggy Ann Greenfield in 1978, arguably the best decision he ever made!
He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 13 years, then moved his family to California and started a career with Peter Kiewit and Sons, where he proudly worked for 23 years until his retirement, living in California, Oregon, and Arizona. Once retired, he and Peggy moved to Oklahoma where they ran a KOA campground for several years, and finally returned home to Taylor, Nebraska for his final years.
In Heaven, he will reunite with his parents, Peggy’s parents, and his first grandson, Brody. His legacy will be carried on by his wife of 47 years, Peggy, and his children: son, Jamison and wife Meggan; son, Jared and wife Shannah; daughter, Laine and husband Nathan; son Vaughn; and bonus kids, Jereme and Jessica. All who loved Dave will continue to sneak food to his beloved pup, Piper!
His life was greatly enriched by his grandchildren, Ali, Kylie, Jackson, Noah, Ellie, and Reece; bonus granddaughters, Savana and Kailey; and great granddaughter, Brynlee.
He will be dearly missed by his siblings, Cyndi, Dawnetta and husband Mervin, Bryan, Doreen and husband Craig, and Brad, with whom he shared a lifetime of friendship, laughter, and mischief!
He will be remembered fondly and humorously, especially during Husker football games (GBR!), NASCAR races, Hallmark Christmas movies, and lively games of 10-point Pitch. His family will honor him by continuing to “shoot the moon” without looking at their cards!
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Valley County Hospital in Ord, Nebraska for their limitless kindness, compassion and support during Dave’s final days.
The family has chosen to forego a traditional funeral and will hold a celebration of life in June, 2026 in Taylor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Dave's name to the Valley County Health System Foundation or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $2 billion in high-impact research funded to date.
