On August 12, 2025, Donald ("Mayor Don") succumbed to a 5+ year battle with Parkinson's which was diagnosed after a stroke. While medicines helped to keep his Parkinson's symptoms at bay, he still struggled to regain unassisted walking abilities after his stroke and found himself frequently battling to get his thoughts and words out without struggle. Donald was a devout Christian, loyal husband and father, and avid collector of things (toys, Coke paraphernalia, postcards). After a successful career with the Georgia Department of Transportation, Donald retired to the peaceful north GA mountains alongside his wife of nearly 60 years. Donald's legacy includes two dedicated daughters and four energetic grandsons. His jovial nature (and yes, those wet willies too) will be sorely missed by all.
