$824.00Thomas Edward Rutenberg, Jr., age 77, of Nellysford, Virginia passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born in Rochester, New York on March 4, 1948 and was the son of Thomas Edward Rutenberg, Sr. and Elinor Louise Horwath. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elinor, and his brother, John.
Tom (aka Rute) was a 1969 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and received his MBA from Tulane University. The lifelong friendships that he made with his Coast Guard classmates were very important to him.
Tom was passionate about his family, his sports and his music. His wife, Karen, was the love of his life. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather; a guide and mentor for them. Tom enjoyed being a coach for each of his children’s soccer teams. A true New York sports fan - he was an avid fan of the Syracuse Orangeman, the San Francisco Giants, the New York Giants and Willie Mays. He often listened to the music of Neil Young and Al Hirt.
For the past 4 years Tom loved learning about his Lord & Savior, the Bible and its contents. He was learning to trust the scriptures and how to pray. The book of Daniel is still open on his desk with his pen, yellow highlighter and notebook nearby.
Tom will be remembered for the warmth he brought into the world, the joy he shared through his humor and the profound love that he had for his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Karen Jee Rutenberg; his son, Thomas Rutenberg III known as Trey, his daughter, Shari Bonet (Vinnie) and grandchildren {Derek (Kelsey & great grand-daughter Lydia), James, Liam, Reagan and Mason}, and his daughter, Carolyn Dorfman (Noah) and grandchildren (Judah and Tyler). He is also survived by his sister, Pat Adduci, his sister, Laurie Reynolds (Jeff) and his brother, Chuck Rutenberg along with his nieces and nephews.
Burial will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 at at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA 18940. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow the burial ceremony.
