Raised in Tribute:
$1246.75William D. "Bill" Marx, Jr. was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease (PD) in 2003, but never let the disease dictate the path of his life. He was a strong advocate for the Parkinson's Foundation, WNY Chapter and made it a life goal to encourage others to take their life back from the disease. He was heavily involved in the PD Dance Program, Art Moves Me, started by Cynthia Pegado and attended every rehearsal and show. He belonged to the University at Buffalo Speech Therapy Program, working with graduate students to discover new methods in assisting patients. He loved going to Parkinson's Boxing classes and was eager to show off his vocal skills by counting out his punches. His love of skiing never faded, even after over 40 years of active ski patrolling. The PD Powder Busters, in collaboration with the Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program at Holiday Valley, was formed to introduce (or reintroduce!) those with Parkinson's to the joys of skiing. Although PD ended up limiting him in his movement and stability near the end, he was still able to enjoy one last ski day with his daughters in February 2024. A devoted husband to Mary Ann for over 48 years and loving father to Kristen and Nicole. Bill had many other interests including driving his original 1974 Datsun 260 Z, attending car and air shows, and visiting new places and locations. He was a US Air Force Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, as well as a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. His advocacy for those with Parkinson's will live on.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $2 billion in high-impact research funded to date.
