Raised in Tribute:
$489.25Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, Malaipatty Ramaswami Rangaswami (MR), passed away on April 5, 2025, at the age of 90, with family and love by his side.
He was diagnosed with Parkinson's around 2010, after a family friend noticed the telltale shuffle in his step. Parkinson's was horrific on his body, though his mind stayed sharp throughout. In some ways, for him, it was the worst of all worlds, as he retained his sharp conversational skills, love of reading history and debating politics, investing acumen, and charismatic personality, but was trapped in a body that didn't always allow him to express those attributes to the world. MR was cared for at his daughter's home in Washington, DC, not just by his family, but also by caregiving angels, led by Sonia Legore, who also cared for his wife, Ranganayaki, until she died in 2016 due to Alzheimer's. Sonia's herculean efforts and the loving assistance of the family's longtime nanny, Alejandra Ruiz, allowed MR and his wife to remain at home as their diseases progressed, giving them the gift of spending time with and watching their grandchildren grow.
MR led a full life, moving from colonial India to the UK and then to the United States, where he became a citizen. He enjoyed many successes, including raising two children with his wife.
MR will be missed by his son Bala Chandar (Regina) and daughter Vijaya Lakshmi (Atul Pathiyal), six grandchildren (Vijaya (Matt Lang), Adya (Bobby Soto), Deven Rangaswami, Arjun, Ashwin, Aditya Pathiyal), great grandchild (George Kavi), his sister-in-law (Mangayama), beloved nieces, nephews and their children, as well as angels Sonia and Alejandra.
