Ursula "Suzi" Miller lost her gallant battle with Parkinson's December 25, 2024. It was fitting she chose Christmas to start her heavenly journey as this was her favorite day of the year. As her neurologist explained, she was fortunate to have a very slow progressing variety of the disease. She rarely complained, during her almost 20 year fight, about her condition even when her Parkinson's became more severe . She was proactive in her decision to move to the continuing care community of Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, Florida after she lost her husband, Joe. She was completely mobile at this time and she accepted the need for a walker with her usual grace. She loved her independent living home and again accepted when it was time to move to assisted living to get more support when falling became too frequent. "Training" her assisted living nurses about the importance of receiving her scheduled meds on time five times a day took patience and perseverance. It was new for them and new for her to relinquish control Eventually, they became a true team. The hardest part for her was recognizing that driving was no longer safe as this made her more reliant on her friends for transportation. Never wanting to be a bother she worked hard at PT, doing water aerobics, playing croquet, doing jigsaw puzzles and walking her faithful canine companion, Yogi. Near the end, her Parkinson's accelerated very quickly with both sever physical and cognitive decline. She was preparing for a move to full time care when a series of three hospitalizations led to hospice. She was with her family as she passed. Finally tremor free and reunited with many loved ones.
