$206.00Dr. Alvaro Oviedo of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully on January 23rd in Norwalk, CT. He was born in Bogotá, Colombia, on March 24, 1940. Dr. Oviedo attended college and medical school at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. In 1969, he moved with his new family to the United States to further his medical studies, training at Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY, where he specialized in surgical oncology. In 1974, he joined St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, where he practiced until his retirement in 2014.
Dr. Oviedo will be remembered for his exceptional skill in the operating room, unwavering work ethic among the medical staff, and the surgical residents he mentored. His kindness and compassion towards his patients distinguished him as an outstanding surgeon. His other passions included traveling extensively with his beloved wife, Gloria, and playing with his grandchildren, where he often revealed his silly side, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
Dr. Oviedo is survived by his wife, Gloria; two daughters, Astrid Oviedo Clark and Marella Oviedo and her husband, Brian Lonergan, of Darien, CT; four grandchildren, Wesley P. Clark, Dashiell A. Clark, Isabella O. Lonergan, and Alexander O. Lonergan; his six younger siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Bridges of Epoch in Norwalk for the special care they gave Dr. Oviedo this past year. Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
