Raised in Tribute:
$1049.75Tony Proctor was a two sport letterman in Baseball and Basketball at the University of Alabama and an educator in the Alabama school system for many years. He taught special education as well as coaching basketball at several schools in his tenure. Tony was a Renaissance man. He was a musician who loved playing the trumpet, piano & harmonica. He sang in his church choir for many years.
He loved reading all types of genres of books and poetry. Music was often reverberating in the background at home through the years. He was a boxing fan as well as a cinema buff. He and his brother regularly talked about movies and actors that they appreciated.
In later years, he added real estate to his repertoire. He was honest and forthright in his goals in helping families find their next home. Tony never met a stranger and genuinely loved going out and about showing and listing properties.
Tony also loved gardening. The son of farmers growing up, he had quite the skill set in growing the most bountiful summer gardens. From tomatoes to corn, all varieties of beans and melons, it was quite a treat to eat homegrown fresh food from the garden all my life until such time he had to stop.
Tony loved his church the First United Methodist Church of Albertville. He spent time daily reading his Bible and doing devotions. He always sought God first in all things. That faith helped him greatly during his fight against Parkinson’s..
He was a devoted husband to his wife Nona of 61 years until his passing on Jan 7, 2025. . He was a loving father and grandfather. Tony lived with Parkinson’s disease for several years and it was discovered he also had Lewy Body dementia this year. As many do, he suffered the decline with grace. He never gave up on his therapy and fighting the good fight.
Many don’t realize what a philanthropist he was because he was not boastful about his generosity, whether it be with his time or his financial support. It is my belief as his daughter, that he would love for research to continue and ultimately find a cure. So we are starting this tribute page to generate a pathway to help bring awareness to Parkinson’s disease.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
