Raised in Tribute:
$309.00George Edward Thomas "Tom" Hagin, Jr. was born on November 18, 1942, in Ithaca, NY. A graduate of Ithaca High School, Tom was a Veteran of the US Navy and a retired New York State Trooper. Prior to his service with the NY State Troopers, he worked in the Cornell Safety Division Police Force in Ithaca, NY. Tom was a sports enthusiast, with a special love for going hunting and fishing with family and playing softball with friends and co-workers. He dedicated a lot of his time with many organizations, including the Association of Former NY State Troopers – Southern Tier Chapter 2011, VFW Post 961, Elks BPOE-636, American Legion, and Legion Color Guard all in Ithaca, NY.
A father of five children and two stepchildren, Tom was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2016. Since then, he remained persistent in doing as much as possible while trying hard to overcome challenges of the disease. He continued to travel in his motorhome with his wife Betty, go hunting with his family, work-out to stay strong, and work on projects around his new home in South Carolina. Parkinson's continued making things more and more difficult. Over the past few years, it became difficult for Tom to speak and do projects around the home independently. As a stubborn Irishman, he fought the challenges head-on as long as he could. Unfortunately, in the end, Parkinson's won the battle on Tuesday, December 24th at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family at home.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Bowers Hagin; children: Kimberly Green (Kenneth), Staci Lempesis, Christine Hagin, Dean Taggart (Leslie), Tammy Hagin (Rob Miller), Trevor Hagin (Kathryn) and Brandon Hagin; brothers: Robert Hagin (Jo-An) and Michael Hagin (Cindy); 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren with a great-great-grandchild due July 2025.
Along with his parents, Thomas was predeceased by a sister, Margy Dillon and grandson, Chase Bowen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, Box 4777, New York, NY 10163 in his name.
