$331.75Marilyn Holman DePasquale passed away on November 4, 2024, at the age of 96. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, a teacher, and a friend to many.
She was born on July 9, 1928, on her family’s farm outside of Union City, Tennessee. She shared many stories about growing up on the farm. She graduated from Union City High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Memphis State University and a master’s degree in physical education from Indiana University. She had an adventurous spirit and while in her twenties traveled to Israel under the International 4-H Youth Exchange program and lived for many months on a Kibbutz. She also spent a summer living and working at Yellowstone National Park.
While attending Indiana, Marilyn met Joseph DePasquale, an Indiana University law student. Marilyn and Joe married in 1957. They visited Arizona on their honeymoon and liked it and eventually moved to Prescott, Arizona, in 1959. Joe worked as a lawyer and Marilyn as a teacher. Marilyn taught Girls PE at Prescott High School until the birth of her first child, Mark. Her daughter Mary was born two years later. The family lived for many years in Prescott in their house surrounded by boulders. After her children left home for college, Marilyn returned to teaching and taught Kindergarten at Miller Valley School.
Marilyn was a member of the Prescott United Methodist church for 65 years and a founding member of the BG Chapter of PEO. She was also a member of her church circle and the American Association of University Women. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed square, round, and tap dancing.
After her husband’s death in 1984, Marilyn lived on her own at the family home in Prescott. She was fiercely independent and took care of everything on her own, including mowing her expansive yard until she was well into her eighties. She enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends. During Covid, Marilyn moved to Virginia to live with her daughter Mary and her family and was living there at the time of her death.
Marilyn is survived by her son Mark (Annette), daughter Mary (Whit), grandchildren Emily, Julia, Katie, Daniel, and Andrew, sisters in law, Grace Ruberti and Trudy Holman, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Joe, and siblings George, Laura and Robert.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley, Prescott, Arizona, on November 30 at 11:30
