Raised in Tribute:
$2954.50Barry Sheppard passed away on Sept. 29, 2024 at home after living with Parkinson’s for more than 30 years. He was 78.
Barry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the early 1990s at the relatively young age of 45. But he did not let it stop him from enjoying his life.
By the time he was diagnosed, Barry had built up a successful business, Sheppard Detective System, Inc. in Philadelphia and could spend time away from the office to travel with his wife Patricia. Among their favorite destinations were Aruba and the Bahamas, which they visited often with their friends and Barry’s children, Harrison and Alycia.
They also spent much time down the Jersey Shore, where Barry and Patti owned a beachfront home. He enjoyed it so much that he once said one of his greatest regrets in life was not holding onto it longer.
Barry and his family are grateful that advances in modern medicine and technology allowed him to battle the progression of the disease. He underwent deep brain stimulation surgery more than 20 years ago and the procedure put a new bounce in his step, allowing him to resume his travels and other activities for a time.
Barry was born on March 20, 1946 and grew up in Philadelphia as one of five children of Ruth and Herman Sheppard. He graduated from Olney High School and then enlisted in the Army Reserves. He started running the family business at age 24 with the sudden passing of his father, Herman
Barry is survived by his wife Patricia (Toto) Sheppard, his children Harrison and Alycia, his sister Marlene and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three siblings and his first wife Ann (Brilliant).
