With profound sadness, the family of Heywood Waga, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many, announces his passing on July 4, 2024.

Heywood, affectionately known as “Woody,” made Montclair, NJ, his home but never let go of his Brooklyn roots, often delighting friends and family with his adventures of yore. The charmer from Brighton Beach with the affable smile and cheeky humor, made friends quickly and easily. His selflessness, generosity and loyalty were ingrained in his core and can be attributed to his life-long friendships. No matter the circumstance or where you came from, Woody made it his mission to genuinely care and offer his friendship. His natural leadership qualities, which he used to improve his industry, and his steadfast resolve to make a difference, led him to ascend to the highest levels of the court reporting field in both local and national capacities. If there was a professional award to be granted, Woody was always endorsed by his peers to be the recipient.

Woody admirably lived his life with purpose and meaning. His selflessness and thoughtfulness were not just traits but gifts that enriched the lives of those around him—doing good was a mantra that gave Woody energy and motivated him throughout his life. His primary love was his family where his devotion and loyalty were always on full display. To his family, Woody was King. His capacity for love and generosity for family and friends was returned in kind, filling his overflowing heart with joy.

Woody's Parkinson's diagnosis in 2008 never stopped him from living his best life, and passionately fighting the good fight to find a cure, which he always believed was on the horizon.
