Born on February 18, 1951, in Schenectady, Craig attended Bishop Gibbons High School and was a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.

He was an officer in the Air Force, where he served as a military physician and Lieutenant Colonel.

Craig completed his internal medicine residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland AFB, in San Antonio, Texas, and his fellowship in hematology/oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

During his military assignments, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and served as chief hematologist/oncologist at USAF Medical Center-Keesler AFB, in Biloxi, Mississippi; and staff hematologist/oncologist at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio.

He was an accomplished clinician scientist with several journal publications, abstracts, and presentations within the field of hematology/ oncology and was the recipient of a USAF Commendation Medal in 1986.

In July 1990, Craig moved to Bridgeport, WV where he was a partner in private practice at Oncology-Hematology Associates.

While he retired from private practice in 2012, his dedication to helping others brought him out of retirement and he assumed the role of medical oncologist and cancer program administrator at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg WV.

In retirement, Craig developed an interest in amateur radio and became a licensed amateur radio operator and member of the Central West Virginia Wireless Association. When he wasn't on the radio, he was an avid reader, and particularly enjoyed reading about finance.

In his spare time, Craig also enjoyed working in his yard, WVU football and basketball, and spending time with his family.
