Oakdale -- Suellen Belcher, 80 years old Oakdale, CA passed away at her residence on March 18, 2024. She was born to Wilton "Doc" Sheffield and Mercedes Thompson Sheffield in Seminole County, GA on August 20, 1943
She was awarded all state guard on the Seminole County Girls Basketball Team during her four years for Seminole County High School. She graduated in 1961 and went onto Valdosta State University. While attending college she was on the unofficial women's basketball team and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she served on the Women's Residence Hall Council. She graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Minor in Social Science. She went on to teach periodically for the next 20 years. During her lifetime, Suellen owned a convenience store and video store. She enjoyed her customers and interactions with them. She later moved to California and taught for 10 years while living there. She enjoyed touring the West Coast and spending time with her children.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Ronnie Belcher of Americus, GA. She is survived by her children Eleanor and Melissa Mizell of Oakdale, CA and Phillip Mizell of Sacramento, CA as well as grandchildren Justice and Seth Norton and great-grandchildren.
Final arrangements are being made by Oakdale Memorial Chapel. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Parkinson's research via the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Suellen’s final wish was for no memorial service or funeral. But that she will be remembered in good health, good times, and to smile when thinking of her.
