Norma Jean Mason, age 85, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2023. She was born July 16, 1938
in Mount Hope, West Virginia, and moved to Columbus, Ohio with husband Jackie in 1963. She was proceeded in death by parents Ambers and Josephine Sink, sisters Jane, June and Joan, her beloved son Heath Mason, and great grandson Kade Lambert.
Norma loved baseball, specifically the Cincinnati Reds. She never missed a game on TV or radio, always loyal regardless of how the season was going. She loved Elvis and Elton, going alone to see Elvis one time so her husband wouldn’t witness her screaming and crying for the King! She loved music and reading, puzzles, gardening, the ocean and the beach, and dining out with friends. Most recently she got a lot of joy from feeding apples to the neighborhood deer.
More than anything, Norma loved “her Jack” and the family they built together! She was giving, loyal, caring, a good listener, encouraging, nurturing, welcoming, comforting… a rare and special wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
If there were a Grandparents Hall of Fame, Norma would be a unanimous, first-ballot inductee. She cherished being a grandmother, incredibly generous with her time and talents, unquestionably loving each of her grandchildren and whatever their interests were. She was “all in!” That included attending every single baseball, soccer or hockey game, gymnastics meet, school play or concert. That often involved playing Legos or Hot Wheels on the floor, wiffle ball in the yard, making cookies late at night or corn for breakfast – whatever it took!
Norma had a quick sense of humor; she made us laugh constantly, even in her last days. She said what was on her mind, but always with humor and love behind it. You always knew where you stood, and she made every effort to put your needs before her own. She made everyone feel like family. She asked little in return – maybe the occasional Coors Light or simply your company and conversation.
Norma will be forever missed by her husband Jackie, her children Danny (and wife Melissa) and Deana (and husband Jeremy), and her grandchildren (oldest to youngest) – Josh (and Abbe) Mason, Jennifer (and Caleb) Lambert, Mason Rogers and Jack Rogers. She has three great-grandchildren – Autumn and Josie Lambert, and Archie Mason.
