Dino came to the United States as a young boy from Greece in 1950. Prior to his arrival, Dino's father was not well. He knew that he did not have much time, so he took Dino to the port of Athens and said to him "Leventi mou (My brave boy), this is the last time that you will see me, and I want you to make me one promise - once you arrive in America, you will work hard to bring your mother and siblings to that great country, so that you will all be together again someday." Dino not only fulfilled his promise to his father, but he also had a family of his own that he cherished so deeply and devoted his life to provide for them, while making many sacrifices along the way. Dino was a charismatic, loving, caring, and a giving man. Dino was also an unselfish person, he helped many people over the years, even strangers –everyone that he touched, loved him.
Unfortunately, during the last 15 years of his life, Dino was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The last 10 years were a struggle, not only for Dino, but also for his family who were by his side for each and every moment of his battle. Dino suffered greatly over his last 4 months, but he had his family that loved and cared for him until the very end. For this reason, Dino was fortunate as there are others who struggle with Parkinson's or any other progressive illness that maybe alone.
Throughout Dino's journey with Parkinson's, there have been great strides made in medicine to help slow down the progression of the disease but there is still much more work to be done, so by donating on this page in Dino's honor, you will help the Michael J. Fox Foundation continue the work to someday find a cure and or help others that are currently struggling with the disease or someone that may deal with this dreadful illness in the future.
Please donate whatever you can - even $5 per person/family will add up to make a difference to the cause or in someone's life.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
