Mark Edward Greenmeier, 75, of San Diego, CA, passed away on February 18, 2023 after living with Parkinson's Disease for 16 years.
Mark was born on May 3, 1947 to Reinhold and Ruth (Miller) Greenmeier in Milwaukee, WI. After Mark graduated from Bay View High School in 1965, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served from 1966 to 1970, stationed in Vietnam and Alaska.
Mark met Shirley Lenard while both were employed by Milwaukee County. In 1972, Mark and Shirley moved to San Diego, CA where they spent over 50 years as happy, loving life partners.
Mark worked for 27 years as a turbine engine mechanic. During his working years, his hobbies were golfing and learning to invest with a goal of early retirement. His investments were successful, allowing him to retire at age 52.
He bought a vacation home in La Pine, OR. in 2001 and for the next 16 years Mark & Shirley spent summers in his "happy place" where he enjoyed golfing, fishing, tying flies, bow hunting, photography, and playing with his rescue dog "Baxter".
Mark was predeceased by his parents Reinhold & Ruth Greenmeier, and brother-in-law Tom Skibosh. He is survived by his life partner Shirley Lenard, brothers Daryl (Diane) and Michael (Kenna) Greenmeier and sister Kathy (Tom) Skibosh, 12 nieces & nephews, and 25 grand nieces & nephews.
Mark chose to donate his body to UC San Diego School of Medicine hoping to contribute to research into a cure for Parkinson's. A Memorial Service for families of donors will be held at UC San Diego in May.
A Memorial Service for family will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, 614 E. Howard Ave., Milwaukee, WI. Date and time to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mark's memory be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, an organization Mark felt strongly about.
Mark was a kind, decent human being with a great sense of humor, who treated everyone with respect. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
“We’re never really ready for the loss of someone we love, even though we may be grateful that they are free of life's limitations and finally at peace.”
