Raised in Tribute:
$151.50Laura Ruth Hawkins aged 77 passed away peacefully on January 20th 2023 at home. She is survived by Bryan, her devoted husband of almost 30 years, mother-in-law Margery, niece Amy, nephew Andrew, nieces and nephew, cousins and many loving friends.
Laura grew up in the Fresh Meadows section of Queens, New York. She received her Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Queens College in 1965 and was, for many years, a highly lauded kindergarten teacher in the New York City Public School System.
She met Bryan in 1990 while on a tour of the United Kingdom. He was her Tour Guide and there was an instant attraction. Three months later he chased after her across the Atlantic to New York to be with her. They were married in 1993 both in the USA and in England. When she retired they moved to Texas to be near her family.
Laura lived with Parkinson's Disease for 23 years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a wonderful smile that would brighten the day for everyone she met.
Her hobbies were painting, sewing, and playing the piano. Unfortunately the advancing Parkinson’s disease in the last few years prevented her from enjoying these activities.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
