$1428.50It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Wesley Roszell, 73, of Scottsdale, AZ. Steve passed comfortably on August 10, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a loving husband for 50 years to Cynthia (Carrier) Roszell; an amazing father to his three children Jennifer Lickteig (Trent), Bradley Roszell, (Carrie), and Kimberly Perkl, (Joe); adoring Papa to four grandchildren Claire and Grace Lickteig, Dezmond and Meadow Perkl . He is also survived by brothers Robert Roszell (Sheila) and Jeffrey Roszell (Lisa) as well as countless other family members. He is proceeded in death by his parents Lyle and Mary Lou Roszell.
Steve was born on March 31, 1949 in Peoria, Illinois. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduating in 1971, he joined the Missouri Army National Guard and served for six years. He married his high school sweetheart, Cindy, on June 18, 1972. The same year he began to work for the University of Missouri Alumni Association. In 1979, he was recruited to the University of Minnesota where he served as Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and President of the University of Minnesota Foundation until 1989. After over a decade in higher education, his business mind, confident leadership and people-skills led him to transition into executive and management positions at American Express. He was the President and Chief Executive Officer of American Express Asset Management Group and Senior Vice President of Institutional Financial Services for American Express Financial Advisors until his retirement in 2005.
Steve retired to spend more time in his philanthropic endeavors including sitting on boards at the Minneapolis Foundation, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, Carlson School of Management – University of Minnesota, Weisman Museum of Art, Freshwater Foundation, Crystal Lake & Watershed Association, and a Trustee and Trustee Emeritus of St. Catherine University. After retiring, Steve and Cindy relocated to Scottsdale, AZ for the winters and spent their summers at the beloved family cottage on Crystal Lake in Frankfort, MI. Steve was an avid golfer but also loved to sail, go to musical concerts and travel. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and family. He will be remembered for his smile, generous spirit, warm personality and goofy Roszell humor. Steve remembered everyone’s name and never forgot a face; he will be missed by everyone that had the opportunity to know him.
