$50.00Sammy was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2009 and lived bravely with the disease even while facing other health crises until his death on May 12, 2022. Early after his Parkinson's diagnosis, Sammy began a regimen of medication which changed over the years. Though Parkinson's is a progressive disease, he continued to be an avid exerciser (particularly stationary bike going full throttle!) which his doctor told him was a great way to continue to live fully.
In 2015, Sammy had a life changing operation to aid in his Parkinson's journey. He had reached a point in his disease where the medications were less effective and he became an eligible candidate to receive a Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS). This brain surgery so improved his life that it was like two different Sammy's! The "before" and "after" was extraordinary.
Parkinson's research helps discover treatments like DBS. We are confident there is more to be discovered and many more Parkinson's patients to be helped. We thank you for making a contribution to help in this cause. Sammy would be so grateful too.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $800 million in high-impact research funded to date.
