Raised in Tribute:
$2177.00Born in Columbus, Ohio on January 8, 1943, Marcia spent her youth in Chicago before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. The oldest of five, she attended Acalanes High School and earned a political science degree from San Francisco State University. After a stint as a second-grade teacher, a trip to New York City ignited her never-ending love affair with the Big Apple and she didn’t board her return flight home. She met her husband Ron Foster (1926-2006) and, together, they raised two sons, Chris and Geoff, over their 33-years of marriage.
Marcia enjoyed a highly successful 27-year career at the international cosmetics company, Avon Products, rising to the title of Senior Vice President, Human Resources. She was deeply involved in advancing women into leadership positions across the company while being a trailblazer herself. After retiring in 1999, Marcia worked at an outplacement firm until 2007 and devoted her energy to numerous company boards and non-profits. Her unending curiosity propelled her to earn an additional degree in social work from Columbia University in 2009.
Always multi-dimensional, Marcia was an avid supporter of both the NYC arts and sports scenes. She regularly attended the theater, opera, and ballet and enjoyed many weekends attending NY Jets games. Marcia and Ron shared an unquenchable thirst for travel, making trips to more than 60 countries and every continent. Even in the final year of her life, she was taking classes in literature and film. She finished a Stephen Sondheim course - her favorite - within weeks of both of their passing.
Most of all, she loved spending time with her large family and close friends.
Up until her final days, Marcia was unwavering in her generosity, optimism, kindness, and enthusiasm for life. She will be deeply missed.
Marcia courageously battled Parkinson's disease for over 15 years, never letting the symptoms or side effects of her medication get in the way of enjoying the activities and people she loved. In remembrance, her family asks that you please consider a donation in Marcia's name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today.
