My Father had been diagnosed around 8 years ago, but most likely was showing signs a lot longer. He was a strong and proud man, but also reserved and private. He tried to do much on his own for as long as he could. In the last 2+ years, his symptoms really started to show. Right around the start of the pandemic he had to be put into assisted care. He was obviously not happy with this decision and there were many ups and downs, especially with the on going pandemic. He was well liked by the staff and roommates even if he did try to fight them on his treatments much of the time. He even beat covid at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021. Each time he battled some illness on top of his Parkinson's, he really seemed to come out stronger. Unfortunately mid November things did turn for the worse. He was in the last stages without being able to eat or drink and dementia has settled in. My brother had me to fly in from across the country in order to say my goodbyes. 3 days later we lost my dad. He put up a heck of a fight and went when he felt it was right and allowed us to memorialize him as he would have liked.
