Raised in Tribute:
$790.00On Sunday, November 21, 2021, Carolyn Quick, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 83, at the Sheridan Assisted Living Center in Lakewood Ranch, FL.
Carolyn Helen Luebkemann was born on May 15, 1938, in Springfield, IL, to Elmer and Ella (Rehmer) Luebkemann. On November 1, 1958, Carolyn married the love of her life, Ray Quick, who preceded her in death only a few weeks ago on October 9. Their marriage of almost 63 years was blessed by a daughter, Cynthia, and a son, James.
Carolyn received her teaching degree from Western IL University, where she was and will always be a Tri Sigma Sorority Sister. Thereafter, she earned a master’s degree in Psychology from the University of IL-Springfield, while raising her family. As a beloved 4th grade teacher at Waverly Grade School, she inspired some of her students to pursue teaching careers in their own lives. Following her successful teaching career, Carolyn joined the IL State Board of Education until her retirement in 1991.
Throughout her life, Carolyn pursued many interests with skill and heart. She loved to cook and try new recipes, often making them her own signature dishes. Carolyn created beautiful gardens and greatly enjoyed her University Park garden club. She hosted many dinner parties and loved to entertain, cherishing her many friends while making new ones along the way.
Carolyn and Ray spent many happy years boating with family and friends while living on Lake Springfield, IL; Green Turtle Bay, KY; and Long Boat Key, FL; they also traveled up and down the Mississippi River, Lake Michigan, and the Gulf of Mexico. As “Boat Grandma,” Carolyn treasured time spent with her beautiful grandchildren, and loved to welcome her family home or travel to theirs.
In addition to her husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ella Luebkemann.
Carolyn is survived by her children and grandchildren, of whom she was so proud: Cindy (Vicky Brown) Quick of University Park, FL, and James (Lisa) Quick, of Cedarburg, WI; grandchildren Lauren Hoerchner (Jason) of Appleton, WI, and Jonathan Quick of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Lee Luebkemann; niece Lauri (Rob) Cunningham; nephew Mark (Audrey) Luebkemann; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of a memorial service at this time, Ray and Carolyn’s ashes will eventually be spread across the Gulf of Mexico.
The Quick Family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to staff at The Sheridan at Lakewood Ranch for taking such excellent care of both Carolyn and Ray over the past 5 years.
In lieu of flowers, gifts to honor Carolyn Quick’s memory may be sent to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or the charity of choice.
