Marion Antonini was a remarkably able man who created successes galore. At the same time, he was kind and genuine, supporting people who did not have his skills or knowledge.
I learned from him when I mentioned to him one morning that I was nervous about a speech I was scheduled to give that afternoon. He responded immediately: "Don't be nervous; you will be In Command." That changed the mood I brought to every speech I did for decades, including one I gave last week.
Marion's lovely wife, Penny, is a dear friend, with whom I shared years in our hometown, Pendleton, Oregon, and our time at the University of Oregon and the Pi Beta Phi house.
I also honor Penny for her support for Marion in his last years, and for the gifts she delivers to the communities where the Antoninis live.
With Love and Admiration,
Joann Byrd
