Kelly Dagenhart, born April 1937 in Stony Pt, NC; grew up in Glen Burnie, MD. He graduated from Virginia Tech first, then earned a Masters and a PhD in Physics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, while working at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 37 years. He developed the first symptoms of Parkinson’s in 2002 and was officially diagnosed in 2006. His Parkinson’s came from exposure to manganese and stainless steel at the workplace. His answer to surviving that and 72 years with Diabetes Type 1 after a bout with polio as a teen was a strict low carb/calorie diet and daily exercise of a variety of types, running & swimming as a young man. In later years he switched to local cardiac rehab 4 days/week, weights at a local gym & walking. His constant motion in body & mind kept him young & contributing to improve our world until he lost his battle with PD November 7, 2021.
