In 2007, Lou was a 53 year-old, general surgeon at the height of his career. He had a slight tremor for about 6 months before he consulted with a Movement Disorders specialist, who diagnosed him with Parkinson’s disease. That difficult diagnosis summarily ended his career.
After a brief mourning period, Lou poured his energy into being physically active, traveling, spending time with his wife, Debby, and their large family and raising money for the MJFF. Over the course of several years, Lou & Debby and their incredibly devoted friends and family raised over $250,000 for MJFF.
It’s been 14 years since Lou’s diagnosis and he still keeps busy with his family, the gym and as much golf as possible. As his illness becomes more challenging, he faces it with good humor and unending tenacity.
Although Lou has been retired for almost a decade and a half and hasn’t operated in that long, he is, and always will be a physician. He has helped and continues to help innumerable people by generously giving of his time. If Lou has ever been there for you— as a friend, family member or colleague, please give back to him by making a donation to the MJFF on giving Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
