Raised in Tribute:
$2145.00MAUREEN ELAINE PATRIE, 78
Maureen passed away on September 4, 2017 in Broomfield, Colorado.
Maureen was born on June 25, 1939 to Albert and Isabel Stead in Longridge, a small mill and quarry town in North West England. She was raised there with her four siblings, and graduated from the Berry Lane Church of England School in 1957.
After completing her formal education, Maureen bought a ticket for the RMS Empress of Britain and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. Her plans for just a couple of years of adventure in Canada and America changed when she met a handsome, young, carrier-qualified Naval Aviator named Jim Patrie. After a courtship of a few years, they were married in 1961, and began raising a family that included three children and several Siamese cats.
In her lifetime, Maureen exercised enviable skills in a wide range of homemaking endeavors, including interior decorating, remodeling, photography, and knitting/sewing entire garments from scratch. Most notably, over the years there were uncountable masses of friends, neighbors, starving college students, and fresh-faced missionaries to whom she served gourmet meals that would have put Julia Child to shame.
In addition to "loving wife," "dedicated mother," "consummate homemaker," and "lifelong friend," in 1978 Maureen added "legal secretary" to her list of titles, a position she kept until her retirement in 1999.
Together with her family, Maureen called many places home, including Erie, Pennsylvania (11 years); Madison, Wisconsin (4 years); New Brighton, Minnesota (29 years); and Broomfield, Colorado (7 years). In addition, she traveled throughout America and the world, visiting at least 54 countries and climbing numerous mountains along the way, including Whitney, St. Helens, Adams, Shasta, Kilimanjaro, and Ben Nevis.
Maureen became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America in 1996. She nonetheless continued her close affiliation with other British expatriates, finding local clubs wherever she lived.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of Broomfield, Colorado; her son, Bryan Patrie of Palo Alto, California; her son, Mitch Patrie (Masako Morishita) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; her daughter, Anne-Marie Patrie (John Schneider) of Louisville, Colorado; her twin brother, John Stead of Blackpool, England; her sisters, Joan Wilson of San Leandro, California, and Irene Stead of Foster City, California; her granddaughters, Hayley Cashdollar (Jason Cashdollar) and Savannah Schneider; and her many nieces and nephews and other relatives. In addition, she leaves behind countless good friends across the country and around the world.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Isabel, and her sister, Jennifer Crossley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9 at Darrel Howe Mortuary, 1701 West South Boulder Road, Lafayette, Colorado at 11:00. Immediately following the service, the family will be greeting friends for lunch at 95A Bistro and Sushi, 1381 Forest Park Circle, Lafayette, Colorado.
