Sarah Gamble passed away on August 21, 2017. She was a friend to all and never met a stranger. Thirty years ago, she sustained severe spinal fractures when an 18-wheeler smashed into the car she and her husband Paul were driving. Within a year after that, Paul's already diagnosed Parkinson's disease forced him to stop working. Despite her own medical condition and constant pain , Sarah became Paul's full-time caregiver as the Parkinson's gradually reduced Paul's abilities. Together, they led an active and happy life. She persevered as long as possible, which allowed Paul to remain in their home until just two months before his death twenty-three years ago.
Sarah fought Parkinson's along side Paul for over six years. She always longed for a breakthrough which would lead to ways to manage Parkinson's, if not cure the disease.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $2 billion in high-impact research funded to date.
