Jeffery M. Hancock, was born September 24, 1930, and passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the age of 86. Service: A private family service will be held on June 24, 2017. Memorials: May be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Special thanks to his caregivers, Lilian and Mishel, and to everyone at Encompass Hospice-- particularly Carla, Jeff's hospice nurse -- for their compassionate care, and for David, his Chaplain. Jeff, the only child of Joe Mason and Merle Hancock, was born in Dublin, Texas and graduated from Dublin High School. A proud Longhorn, he attended The University of Texas where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and a Master's Degree in History. He worked as Sports Editor of the Daily Texan while at the University of Texas and at the Sports Department of the Austin American-Statesman. He served as an Officer in the Army. Jeff was a dedicated educator for over 50 years, who retired from the Austin Independent School District and from Austin Community College, where he was an original faculty member for the History Department. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Betty, and children, Laura Mecanick and husband, Ray, Lisa Hancock and Amy Shields and husband, Mark; and grandchildren, Stephen, Robert and wife, Natalie and Sarah Shields.
