Raised in Tribute:
$100.00Our loved one, Hector Solis was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD) about four years ago. He was a true gentleman; loving, caring and "had a heart bigger than his body." He always saw the positive in every situation and refused to give up on anything or anybody. We watched as our gentle giant who at once measured 6'2", 225 pounds deteriorate into a man who weighed a mere 145 lbs.
In January of 2017, he had a bout of urosepsis due to Parkinson’s induced neurogenic bladder. His disease progressed quickly as he was no longer able to eat or drink anything. His stiffness became so severe he lost his ability to walk and became bedridden. He later developed sepsis which ensued after a bedsore led to osteomyelitis. He fought endlessly until he lost his battle on May 6, 2017. Family and friends watched helplessly as he struggled to communicate during his final hours.
What we have learned is that PD is a devastating illness that robs a person of his dignity and identity. We were filled with feelings of hopelessness and a sense of guilt as doctors told us there was nothing more that could be done.
Please join us in our efforts to fund research in an effort to find better more aggressive treatment options and a possible cure for this dreadful disease. Donate now to help those suffering with PD in memory of our father, our best friend, our hero, Hector Solis.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $2 billion in high-impact research funded to date.
