Dr. Harold Theodore Trimmer died on February 22, 2017. Dr. Trimmer was born on September 20, 1942 and raised on a family farm in Maitland, Missouri. He was the first in his family, and of his six siblings, to attend college. He graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.
After serving as a Captain in the Army, Dr. Trimmer moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1972 and entered private practice as a Veterinarian. Over the past forty years, he owned and operated several small animal hospitals throughout the Las Vegas metropolitan area in partnership with his friend and colleague, Dr. James E. Nave. He also maintained an active farming operation in Northwest Missouri, most recently in partnership with his youngest son.
During his career as a veterinarian, Dr. Trimmer held a number of positions in national and state veterinary medical associations. He represented Nevada as its representative to the American Veterinary Medicine Association and was a member of the AVMA Executive Board for several years. Dr. Trimmer also was a member of the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Medicine for 18 years and served as its president from 1994 to 2002.
Dr. Trimmer was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Nothing was more important to him. He met his wife Paula Christensen Trimmer at First Presbyterian Church, shortly after moving to Las Vegas, and at the time of his passing they had been married for more than 42 years. He is survived by Paula, their four children, Ann, Paul, Harold and Clark, his son in law, Jared Russman, and seven grandchildren. Dr. Trimmer's daughter Ann Trimmer is a Board Certified Veterinary Dermatologist practicing in Las Vegas, and with her husband Jared, has a son William. His eldest son, Paul Trimmer, is an attorney in Las Vegas, and with his wife Emina Kwok, has three children, Michael, Mirai, and Kate. Dr. Trimmer's son Harold Trimmer is an attorney in San Diego, and with his wife Sasha Selfridge, has two daughters, Quinn and Hazel. His youngest son, Clark Trimmer was his business partner. Clark lives in Birmingham, Alabama with his wife, Carra Fowlkes Trimmer, and together they have a daughter, Harper.
At the time of his death, Dr. Trimmer and his wife lived in Calico Basin and were committed to maintaining its character as a rural preservation area and Red Rock Canyon's status as a National Conservation Area. Dr. Trimmer did not desire a public service. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, his family asks that any memorial contributions be made to Save Red Rock or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
