Floyd was one of the smartest men that never went to college with a thirst for learning and a joy experiencing life. He had many hobbies including gardening, wine making, tropical fish, fishing, tennis and many other pursuits. He was a self-taught engineer that preferred to tinker and fix something versus replacing it. Anything that was broke was subject to a precise dissection and investigation. I believe he was the "original" Corporal Radar stationed in China in WWII. He built a refrigeration unit to cool beer for the enlisted men, as well as learned basic Mandarin to provide laundry and barbershop services for the enlisted. His entrepreneurial spirit served him well and he eventually started his own business in the late 1950's.
Like us all, he had his faults, including stubbornness, occasional crankiness, but he could also be the life of a party. His cluttered mind reflected his (dis)organizational style. He became afflicted with Parkinson's disease in his 70's and died at the age of 84 in 2006. Parkinson's robbed him of his vitality, but not his humor. We miss him.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. The Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, with more than $2 billion in high-impact research funded to date.
