$1083.00This is the story of Robert Lawrence “Larry” Reed. Larry loved his family above all. He was a loving father, husband, papa, brother, uncle and the truest of friends to those he loved. He absolutely loved fishing and caring for his chihuahua Chico, and had become a great fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Larry’s story started on June 2, 1948, the first child of Robert and Doris “DD” (Clem) Reed, in the town of Kirksville, MO. Growing up in Milan, MO, along with his sister, Larry worked with his dad at the cement plant, learning to operate any piece of equipment there. He drove a dump truck with a pup trailer to bring rock to the plant before he was legally old enough. He played football for the Milan Wildcats in high school. He enjoyed burning up the blacktop in his Chevelle Super Sport and later in his Plymouth Road Runner.
Larry attended college at Rolla School of Mines, Rolla, MO, receiving a BS degree in Civil Engineering and continued his education at the University of Missouri at Columbia, MO, graduating with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering.
Larry worked for the oil companies, Phillips 66 and Continental Pipeline in Oklahoma and Louisiana after graduation. He then decided on a career change. He entered the field of financial technology. He worked most of his career for National Data Corporation and ultimately retired from Intuit in 2005.
Larry’s story continues as he marries and starts a family. By now he is in Lilburn, GA and has added three children to his story, two boys and a girl. Stories change, life changes, Larry’s did.
Larry was a courageous fighter. He was diagnosed with diabetes when he was a sophomore in college, he was a cancer survivor and he had battled Parkinson’s disease for over 13 years.
On June 11, 2021, 9 days after his 73rd birthday, Robert Lawrence was called home to heaven after this tiring struggle. Upon his arrival in heaven, he will be greeted by his loved ones, mother DD, father Robert, grandparents Pete and Margaret Clem and Fred and Jenny Reed.
Loved ones that will miss Larry are his wife of 17 years, Margaret “Meg” (Johnson) Reed, sons Matthew Reed (+ Daisy Chen) and Andrew Reed, daughter Susanna Hewatt (+ Austin), step-daughter Jessica Poyton (+ Christopher), 4 grandchildren, Addy and Rhett Hewatt, Alayna Clark, and Alexander Poynton, sister Margaret Lees (+ Randy), nephew Troy Lees (+ Charlyne), Uncle Wayne E Clem (+ Joyce), and several cousins.
Visitation will be held at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 14, 2021 at Meadows Funeral Home, Monroe, GA. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
