$140.00Boerne, Texas - Harold Gene Buchanan, 82, died Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Cibolo Creek Nursing Home in Boerne, Texas following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Peal) Buchanan; his sons, Harold Gene Buchanan II and Jeffery Lee Buchanan; his daughter, Nedra Buchanan Edwards; his daughters-in-law Jeri Carter Buchanan and Heather Hartless Buchanan; his son-in-law Craig Andrews Edwards; his grandchildren Harold Gene Buchanan III (Trey), Kelsey Ann Buchanan, Blair Elizabeth Buchanan, Jeffery Lee Buchanan II (Chip), Blake Joshua Buchanan, Gage Parker Edwards and Allie Raye Edwards; his sister Dorothy Marcella (Buchanan) Hollon and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He is predeceased by his brothers John Blaine Buchanan and Howard Courtney Buchanan Junior.
Born on July 31, 1934 in Stillwater, Kentucky, the son of the late Howard Courtney Buchanan and the late Della Mae (Trent) Buchanan, he lived in Cincinnati, Ohio much of his life before retiring to Lufkin, Texas.
After completing Wolf County High School in 1952, he joined the Air Force where he attained the rank of Staff Sargent. He served for ten years in Europe, Africa and in the United States. He met his wife, Barbara, in Charleston, West Virginia and they were married in 1963 at Davis Creek Nazarene Church.
After serving with the Air Force, Harold worked for several companies including his own company until joining Ford Motor Company in Cincinnati. He not only took pride in his affiliation with Ford, but became a leader in implementing statistical quality control in the company. He met and worked with Dr. W. Edwards Deming who enjoyed Harold and always demanded to see him when visiting the Ford plant in Batavia, Ohio. He retired from Ford in 1987.
An avid fisherman, he relished his time with family around the water. Whether it was Musky fishing in Canada's Eagle Lake or Bass fishing in Texas' Lake Sam Rayburn, Harold will be fondly remembered with a fishing pole in his hand.
He was a Free Mason since joining in 1968 and a member of the Covert Lodge #437 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held Saturday November 5th at 11:00 AM at Joshua Springs Park in Boerne, Texas. The service will be presided over by Pastor Steve Gross of the Kendall County Cowboy Church where Harold was a member. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in tribute to Harold Buchanan to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research
