Margaret is the mother of 8 children. She was married to the same man for 48 years until he passed in 2006. My mom was diagnosed a few years ago with Parkinson's . She was working, living alone and independent. She fought it every step of the way, so proud. She now lives in a nursing home, unable to clearly communicate her thoughts and feelings, and needs assistance in all of her daily care and needs. Prior to losing her ability to clearly communicate, I asked what she would like people to know about Parkinson's. She said: people don't understand. It messes up your life. Falling down, now can't walk. Always trying to be understood. It hurts they don't try to understand.
As a family , we kept her home as long as we safely could. We know she is disappointed in us, but there is no way we can physically meet her needs. We continue to be there, but it never feels like enough. Our goal is a cure.
