Kathleen Mary O'Hanlon Law lost her battle to Parkinson's Disease on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Clovis, CA. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Kathleen was born in 1935 in the Parkchester section of the Bronx to Eugene and Catherine O'Hanlon. She was the youngest of five siblings and the only girl to grace the family. The house was filled with Irish music, step dancing and laughter. As adults she would always share many of those laughs and stories with her brothers, Joey, Gene, Jimmy and John.
Kathleen graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in Manhattan. After high school she attended secretarial school and started working at the Military Ordinariate under Cardinal Francis Spellman in New York. She excelled in her work and enjoyed the friendships and independence her career gave her. She was very proud of the PBX technical skills she learned through this career.
At 15, Kathleen met a handsome, young man, Tom Law, from Throggs Neck, NY. In August 1957 Tom graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy and they married at The Church of St. Anthony in the Bronx. Their wedding was officiated by Bishop William Arnold, a point which Kathleen and Tom were always proud of.
In 1961 they made Yorktown Heights, NY their home to be closer to Tom's job with Con Edison. Over the next 18 years and and with all 5 children Tom and Kathleen made Cordial Road a happy home -- there were countless friends and all were socially, civically, and spiritually active. The Law house was her center; she was a gracious host and incredible chef. She loved having her very large extended family for gatherings and holidays. They were proud to be among the founding community of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton parish and school. She and Tom took parts in local theater; he singing and she dancing a mean Can Can. The Northern Westchester Irish American Social Club was a big part of their life in Yorktown. She worked tirelessly and lovingly taking care of her aging father, Gene.
In 1979 Tom took a new position in Palo Alto and the family moved to San Jose, CA. She worked part-time in the local schools and at Montgomery Ward where she put her PBX skills to good use. Later she and Tom moved to Pleasanton, CA moving into a beautiful home with many gardens and an active club house. Kathleen began her many years of water aerobics, which she turned into a very dedicated hobby.
After 47 years of marriage she lost her partner and loving husband, Tom in 2004. She surrounded herself with her children and grandchildren whom she loved and was so proud of. She is survived by her loving children Tom, Terence, Eugene, Kathy and Alison; daughter-in-law, Michelle; sons-in-law, Chad, Llew and Joe; her wonderful grandchildren whom she loved so much, Alex, Sean, Everett, Ryan, Olivia, Sophia, Katey and Tommy; her older brother, Gene O'Hanlon; sisters & brothers-in-law and countless nieces and nephews who always made her laugh.
Funeral services will be held at 9:15 am on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, St. Augustine Catholic Church, 3999 Bernal Ave, Pleasanton, CA 94566.
