Dad was the best Dad ever!! Dad would give his shirt off his back to help someone he didn't even know. He loved his family and friends with a passion. He loved cars and going for long drives. He was a Sea Bee in the US NAVY for over 20 years. Parkinsons came into his life silently. Dr's thought it was all part of shingles that he developed years prior. At first his voice got real low and soft. Writing became a chore for him and he use to tell me I just can't think like I use to. He use to complain that his legs were heavy they didn't hurt but it was hard to get them to move. Then came the falling, falling was so scary because this giant of a Man that was always there to hold you up now needed our help. He would say he was alright but then he was falling and I couldn't catch him. I knew from the one day I asked him if he was alright walking out of the office he said yes then yelled noooo and he fell in the parking lot on his knees. I threw everything down I had in my hand my purse and a soda to try to catch him so he wouldn't hit the ground but at 6ft 2 he just went down with such force I was crying and he said he was going to drive home. From that day on he no longer drove. He kept falling hurting his knees, elbows and face. He said it was like he was in a trance and had no control. My Dad was in and out of the Hospital/Rehab for months. I went daily, most times twice a day to see him he was so happy to see us. These places are horrible and even with all of us going all the time, I feel he was still mistreated. Bed sores to the bone, bruises that bled and now he has a tracheostomy because his muscles are so weak he aspirated while eating and he also has a PEG tube. He tried his hardest to get better. So he could come home. He went through some tremendous pain. One night after being transferred to a new Rehab where he was going to get more physical therapy than the last. His body was tired, weak and couldn't go on. We lost my Dad on 02/02/2016. We lost my Dad to this horrible disease that is called Parkinsons.
