She was born July 2, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Iona and John Wilgus. She was reared by relatives in Philadelphia as well as in Virginia on the Eastern Shore.
She worked at the Ferry Dock in Cape Charles, Va. as well as a seamstress making chef hats, worked in a candy factory and rolling cigars in a cigar factory. She met her husband, Orville L Hall in Virginia, while he was assigned to the Airforce station in Cape Charles.
While in the Air Force Orville married Ruth Vera Wilgus July 9, 1954 and they celebrated their life together for the next 51 years. Over the course of their marriage she supported and managed her husband and three children. During this time they lived in Indiana, Panama, California and then moved to Oklahoma in 1970. As the children grew, Ruth was engaged in all of her children's activities as well as in employment including part time jobs with the Shawnee School system, being a "sample person" in grocery stores and taking classes on and perfecting her art of cake decorating. Ruth was a very modest person but one of many talents, compassion and constant support and care for her family and friends. She welcomed all visiting friends and if you happen to be visiting on Christmas, she was sure to have a present for you as well.
Besides being the wife of a war hero, she was also the hero of a large family. Her love was unconditional. She was the greatest wife to her husband and mother to her children and grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruth tended to be a great "straight man" to the humor of her husband and kids. Although she grew into a humor of her own and injected her wisdom into everything she did. In her last few years, Ruth fought a brave and long battle with Parkinson's Disease as well as PD Dimentia.
