Raised in Tribute:
$2085.00Evan Carl Henry always sought to make a difference in the world. He was a passionate environmentalist and dedicated his career and much of his volunteering efforts to environmental causes. Many friends will remember his efforts to increase awareness and understanding of living with Parkinson's disease. After his diagnosis in 2003, he became active with the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the National Parkinson's Foundation, and was a founding member and board member of the California Parkinson's Group, a support network for young-onset Parkinson's disease patients and their families. Evan wrote and self-published Shaker Guy, a novel with a Parkinsonian protagonist, in 2006. He was an advocate for Parkinson's patients on a citizen advisory council to the UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Center, and spoke to the public about his experience with the disease in various settings, including recently at Sebastopol's Science Buzz Café and in an interview for KCRB public radio.
He passed away unexpectedly on the 7th of September, 2016 at his home in Sebastopol, CA. He was 61 years young and the cause of death appears to have been a heart attack. Evan loved Scrabble, crossword puzzles, and wordplay. He was a lifelong singer, sharing his talents in the Sebastopol Gospel Choir and his college a cappella group, the Tufts Beelzebubs. He loved to talk about politics, economics, and philosophy, and coming up with ways to save the world. He refused to let his Parkinson's limit him, and greeted every day with optimism and will, working hard to stay active and creative, and always trying to share his joy with everyone he met. He is survived by his daughters Amy and Lauren, their mother and his ex-wife Dillon, his fiancé Mary Ann, and his three brothers Eric, Kim and Dave, and his sister Lauren.
Evan was a big supporter of the Michael J Fox Foundation and attended many events, and we always held out hope for better treatments and an eventual cure to his disease. We ask you to consider making a donation here in his honor.
We also ask friends to consider a donation to the California Parkinson's Group. Evan was a founding member of this organization, which supports patients and their families dealing with the challenges of Parkinson's disease in Orange County, CA. This group has been a crucial source of support for Evan and our family. Checks may be made out to: California Parkinson's Group Foundation, 13351 Nixon Circle, Tustin, CA 92780.
