Our mother, Carolyn, passed away on May 20, 2021 at the age of 75. Carolyn was born in Nanjing, China and lived in Taiwan, Shanghai and the US throughout her life. She was married to Albert Shiang Bing Shen and was the beloved mother of Chin-ru Christine Cote, Chin-hwa Stephanie Shen, Chin-ling Shen Sujet, and Chin-wen Wayne Shen.

Our mother was the kindest, most generous person anyone has ever known. She lived for others to be happy and was selfless in all ways. Despite having severe scoliosis in addition to Parkinson's disease, she never let her pain and suffering get in the way of living life. She was a world traveler, savvy business woman, had many friends all over the globe, and was loved by all she touched.

Our mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in her early 50's. She received a deep brain stimulator implant to help manage her symptoms and was cared for by the neurology team at Mt. Sinai Hospital. We will be forever thankful to the Mt. Sinai team for helping our mother live life on her terms.
