My father, Joe, was born in Kitchener, Ontario Canada and moved to the United States during his early teen years with his family. He taught my sister and I to be ourselves and follow our dreams. His kind heart would always find a way to help others. In the past few years, he conquered Prostate Cancer while being told he was working with Parkinson's.
My father has lived in San Francisco for over 30 years. He was an accomplished man who used his determination and founded Export Assist Inc. An exert from his page "Mr. Englert has worked with the Department of Commerce since 1993 and teaches trade finance seminars for the Foreign Commercial Service Division, International Trade Administration and the Office of Import Administration. He has also been an adviser to the Small Business Administration, Office of International Trade. In 1999, Mr. Englert negotiated the first public-private partnership with The Export-Import Bank of the United States to teach Export Assist’s Export Lender Course to financial institutions nationwide."
It was very difficult to watch the man, who was our pillar of strength, maneuver and try to manage his disease. The past few years appeared to take a great toll on his body and mind. His attempts to practice Qi Gong appeared to assist in the beginning but in the past year, his entire body including his mind were shutting down on an aggressive level. It broke our hearts seeing him struggle with his denial and the need for medical assistance. He was a very proud man and the disease caused him to feel insignificant, which was not what we saw. He had significance in the lives of everyone he touched.
His daughters and grand-children love him to pieces and will always keep his laughter and advise close to our hearts forever. Our wish is to help find a cure for Parkinson's Disease sooner than later. We would love to minimize the heartbreak to others as this disease is known to deliver. Even if a cure is not found right away, we hope research will assist in better understanding all avenues and possibly find medication or ways to reduce it's side effects, allowing patients and families better control. Please find it in your heart to donate toward this research! Even the smallest amount can be the greatest gift to someone!
